Waxhaw Insulation for Historic and New Homes
Air sealing, attic and floor insulation, and crawl space encapsulation for homeowners in and around Waxhaw.
Standard has insulated Carolina homes since 1945, and Waxhaw is part of that work
Standard Insulating Company provides attic insulation, air sealing, wall and floor insulation, crawl space insulation and encapsulation, and radiant barriers for Waxhaw homes.
Waxhaw’s downtown dates to the railroad era, while most of its homes are much newer. We inspect each house on its own terms, then seal and insulate where it will make the biggest difference.

Waxhaw Homes, From the Rail Line Out
Waxhaw formed after the railroad reached Union County in 1888 and was incorporated in 1889. The tracks still run down the middle of Main Street, splitting it into North and South Main, and a timber pedestrian bridge at Providence Street connects the two sides.
The Waxhaw Historic District, listed on the National Register in 1991, covers parts of Main, Broad, Church, Broom, Providence, Old Providence, Brevard, and McKibben Streets, with Queen Anne and Craftsman buildings from about 1875 to 1949. Homes from that period usually need careful air sealing and attic work.
Waxhaw is in Union County, which the 2021 IECC county table lists as mixed-humid zone 3A. NC 16, Providence Road, runs through Waxhaw and links many of the newer neighborhoods.
Most homes are far newer than downtown: about 81% of Waxhaw homes were built after 2000 (ACS 2024 5-year). North Carolina’s code lists R-38 attics and R-19 floors for zone 3.
Historic District Houses
Queen Anne and Craftsman homes have complicated attics and open framing. We plan access and sealing carefully.
Newer Neighborhoods
Many homes along Providence Road are newer, but builder insulation can settle or leave gaps over time.
Union Power or Duke
Union Power Cooperative serves parts of Union County. Others are on Duke. We confirm your utility before discussing rebates.
Closed Crawl Permits
NC generally requires a permit to convert a vented crawl space to a closed one, unless an exemption applies.
Whether your Waxhaw home is near the historic downtown or in a newer neighborhood, we start with an inspection. Request a free home energy audit and get a no-obligation plan.
Drafts in Older Waxhaw Homes and How to Stop Them
Homes built in Waxhaw’s railroad era were framed long before air sealing was part of construction. Air moves up through walls and out through the attic, pulling in outside air low in the house. That is why older homes can feel drafty even when the windows are closed.
Seal the top
Sealing the attic floor stops the biggest leaks. See insulation and air sealing.
Insulate the attic
Then add an even layer. See attic insulation.
Insulate the walls
Older walls take care. Read what to expect in an old house.
Seal the bottom
Crawl spaces matter too. See encapsulation.
